The children had a fantastic day walking to America Wood. They learned about various habitats, animals and plants. On the way we stopped to talk about the fields, the pond, the marsh and the wood itself. The children used an eight point compass and followed a route on a map to get to the wood. They sketched the pond, did some bark rubbing and found minibeasts. They also collected natural objects to make their wind chimes.
They walked around the whole wood and really enjoyed experiencing the mud of which there was plenty.
