Picasso-esque Pictures

As part of our Art focus this term we studied the artist Picasso and how he used lines and blocks of colour in his artwork. We learnt that Picasso was part of the ‘Cubism’ movement and had two ‘stand-out’ artistic periods in his life, which were know as: the ‘Blue Period’ and the ‘Rose Period’. These periods reflected the state of Picasso’s mind and the loss of the woman he loved.

Butser Ancient Farm

Today we took a trip across to the mainland to visit Butser Ancient Farm. The farm is set up as an education centre so children can explore what life would have been like dating back to the Stone Age through the Anglo-Saxon period. The children were introduced to life in the Anglo-Saxon times, centred around the Anglo-Saxon house, and took part in activities such as; an archaeological dig, spinning yarn from wool, Using hazel to wattle a fence and chalk carving. We were really lucky with the weather and the children were a credit to Gatten and Lake.
